Goals in the first half by defender John Robertson and after the break by Kris Doolan gave the first division side — who hope to challenge for promotion to the SPL this season — a comfortable victory in what was their third pre-season friendly.

Before the game applause rang out for a minute in tribute to Dumbarton skipper Gordon Lennon, who died in a tragic accident last month.

The match itself saw new men Darren Gribben, Scott Chaplain and Roddy Hunter making their Sons debuts. Two trialists were also fielded.

Ian McCall's men, who were wearing a new pink and grey change strip, dominated for most of the game.

But Dumbarton — led by new skipper Michael Dunlop — defended manfully and broke well from defence without creating many clear-cut chances, although the visiting keeper had to make a couple of great saves.

Ex-Jag Stevie Murray was the home star man, urged on by both sets of fans.
