LITTLE LUCK AT BRECHIN

Some 470 fans, including a large Dumbarton contingent, were at leafy Glebe Park in Brechin on a sunny but very windy afternoon, and saw Sons play some good football and miss many chances.

But it was Jim Duffy's well organised City side, well led by towering no.9 Rory McAllister, who were more lethal in front of goal and gave Sons new Czech goalkeeper Jan Vojacek, signed the previous evening, a tough baptism.

Mark Docherty opened the scoring for the home side when his shot was deflected by Chris Smith and looped over the head of the new keeper. But soon after Sons skipper Michael Dunlop bulleted home a header from a Chris Craig corner to level the score.

McAllister put City ahead again before the break, but in the second half Sons pressed forward with purpose — Roddy Hunter in particular finding good positions but having no luck in front of goal. A Scott Chaplain header hit the bar.

Salt was rubbed into the wound in the final minute when Brechin sub Charlie King scored from the penalty spot, just beating Vojacek's outstretched hand.
