LATE WINNER SHOCKED SONS

Andy Geggan holds off a challenge.
A crowd of 654 saw home keeper Jan Vojacek save an early Ross McCord penalty — his second spot kick save at the SHS in two games — after a foul by Chris Smith.

However Scott Chaplain opened the scoring for Sons after 30 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area after a goalmouth melee, his first league goal since signing from Partick Thistle during the summer.

The lead lasted only a minute before the Binos broke upfield and David McKenna levelled, but before the break 17 year-old Sons winger Alan Cook, making his second start in the top team, netted a ferocious wind-assisted free kick from 25 yards.

Early in the second half the gale helped an even longer free kick by Stewart Devine on the halfway line soar over the head of a stunned Vojacek to level the scores again.

Despite facing the wind Sons fought bravely and carved out chances for Chaplain and substitute Derek Carcary. Shortly before the end sub Martin McNiff was shown a straight red card for a naive foul on Albion's Andy Gibson, and worse was to follow with almost the last kick of the ball when sub Scott Robertson hit the winner for the table-toppers.
