Boosted by a 2-0 win at Stenhousemuir in the final of the Stirlingshire Cup in midweek, Sons retained their winning form when they moved further east to Clackmannanshire.

They took the lead in the 16th minute. Scott Chaplain broke through on ex-Sons keeper David Crawford and should have scored, but a rebound off the keeper's legs fell to Andy Geggan who shot home.

As half-time approached diminutive winger Mark Gilhaney equalised for the Wasps, but they were stung just before the break when Alan Cook forced home a Chris Craig cross from a narrow angle.

Dumbarton largely controlled the second half, and Denis McLaughlin and Craig both had several chances to increase the margin. However the third goal came in the 63rd minute when Chaplain netted another Craig cross from close range.

This important victory moved Dumbarton from bottom spot to sixth equal in the second division table, with two home games to come.
