SONS HELD ON FOR VICTORY

Denis McLaughlin and ex-Son Ian Dobbins battle for possession.
On a dull afternoon with almost constant rain, Sons dominated the first half and created lots of chances. But it took until the 45th minute before they scored.

Iain Chisholm sent over a cross and Scott Chaplain wheeled round and shot home to the delight of the 650 home fans.

However after the break caretaker Arbroath boss Robbie Raeside urged his men to greater endeavour and they took control of the game.

It was a backs to the wall second half for Sons, but although seldom getting out of their own half they permitted the visitors very few clear chances.

Keeper Jan Vojacek, skipper Michael Dunlop and full back Chris 'Junior' Smith were outstanding in defence, and the final whistle ended a dire sequence of home results.
