SONS UNLUCKY NOT TO WIN

Ben Gordon heads clear.
A crowd of 687 endured a sunny but fruitless first half in which Jim Duffy's men had most of the possession but rarely troubled keeper Jan Vojacek.

At the other end striker Denis McLaughlin saw a powerful shot brilliantly saved by Craig Nelson just before half-time.

As daylight disappeared after the break, Sons gradually took command of the game, but wave after wave of attacks were repulsed by the hard-working City defence.

However they had keeper Nelson to thank for a series of fine saves, and he showed brilliant anticipation in dealing with crosses.

Twice Dumbarton shots rebounded back off the bar, and the team's efforts earned them a standing ovation at the fine whistle — but only one point.
