The visitors looked out of sorts in the first half, mounting few attacks but defending solidly as the home side looked for a breakthrough. Keeper Jan Vojacek foiled the home strikers on several occasions.

Whatever Sons manager Jim Chapman said at half-time transformed his side into a potent attacking force who took charge of the match.

After only four minutes striker Roddy Hunter broke through the middle and slammed home the opening goal. A few minutes later skipper Michael Dunlop crossed to Hunter whose shot was blocked, but midfielder Scott Chaplain was on hand to net the rebound.

The icing on the cake came in the final minute when midfielder Ross O'Donaghue flung himself at another Dunlop cross and headed past the keeper to confirm the destiny of the three points.
