UNBEATEN RUN ENDS IN FIFE
14-Nov-2009
A Cowdenbeath defender gets to grips with Roddy Hunter.
The opener came after 15 minutes when Andy Geggan, back after a two game injury absence, burst through the middle of the Cowden defence and sent an unstoppable shot past the keeper from 20 yards.
However the good work was undone four minutes later when the referee adjudged Stevie Murray guilty of a bad tackle in the penalty area and awarded a spot kick, though the club video later showed he clearly won the ball. Paul McQuade convincingly beat keeper Jan Vojacek to level the scores.
Sons continued to dominate, with Scott Chaplain coming close with a shot and Chris Smith with a header. But there was no further scoring before the interval.
The second half belonged to the Blue Brazil, who took charge from the kick-off and set up wave after wave of attacks. But just when it looked as if Sons had survived the onslaught to take a point, McQuade popped up at the near past to head home the winner.
With Derek Carcary, on as a sub for Stevie Murray, tormenting the home defence with his pace, Sons set up a grandstand finish, hit the post and had a shot cleared off the line, but could not find an equaliser.
