This postponed match watched by a 500-strong crowd started 15 minutes later than scheduled, partly because of efforts to fork the wet pitch to keep the game on, and partly because of the late arrival of the Peterhead team bus.

The rain stopped just before kick-off, and a lively and entertaining clash begin. Dumbarton showed much more attacking intent than in the two cup ties against Morton, and for long spells in the game they were the dominant side.

The only goal came after half an hour when referee Stevie Nicholls spotted Sons striker Roddy Hunter being pushed in the back in the penalty box, and awarded a spot kick. The keeper received a yellow card for protesting, and Chaplain netted from the spot.

The visitors fought bravely and had spells of attacking, but found the home defence and keeper Jan Vojacek in no mood to concede a goal. At the other end striker Denis McLaughlin came on as a sub for his first appearance for several weeks and looked in the mood.

Sons best chance came when Chaplain missed in front of goal, and with winger Stevie Murray in rampant form the home strike force always looked dangerous.
