A 595-strong crowd at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on a bitterly cold evening saw a game which was a credit to the division, with some fast and thrilling football.

The Beanos, managed by ex-Son Allan Moore, showed that they had recovered from their 9-0 Scottish Cup hammering at Ross County ten days ago by taking the lead in the first minute through Scott Robertson.

But the tone was set for a to-and-fro battle when Sons centre half Ben Gordon headed a home a corner just a minute later, his second goal in successive home games.

Chris Aitken was the man who made the difference for the visitors, and he scored two goals before the interval — both with stunning volleys which left keeper Jan Vojacek helpless.

However in injury time before the break Roddy Hunter, despite struggling with an ankle injury, broke through to pull a goal back.

In the second half it always looked likely that the first goal would be vital, and after only four minutes Robertson netted his second.

Albion then took command and might have added to the score on several occasions, but were foiled by Vojacek, the woodwork, or brave blocks by full back Chris Smith.

The home side, with new signing Dennis Wyness from St Mirren making his debut in place of Hunter, mounted some pacey attacks and had several shots on target, but could not beat keeper Scott Christie.
