SONS GRAB VITAL WIN

David Winters celebrates after his second goal.
16-Mar-2010
After battling through endless roadworks between Glasgow and Cumbernauld, the Sons fans in the 531-strong crowd saw their side struggle against the bottom side in the division for long spells, but eventually emerge triumphant.John McCormick's side — which included ex-Son Paddy Boyle at no.5 — had the bulk of the possession in the first half, and keeper Jan Vojacek was frequently called into action and made several good saves.
But midway through the half the goal came at the other end, when it was something of a fluke. A cross bounced off Scott Chaplain and fell to striker David Winters, who netted with the aid of a deflection.
In the second period Sons came more into the game despite the spirited efforts of the home team who are desperately fighting to avoid relegation, and a fine goal settled the destination of the points.
Stevie Murray raced forward on the left wing, chipped the ball over a defender to skipper Michael Dunlop, and his fine low cross was netted with ease by Winters.
