As the stock car teams waited for their turn at the delapidated old stadium, a crowd of 349 — including a sizeable contingent of Sons fans — watched a dour but absorbing clash, with neither side managing to break the deadlock.

Danny Lennon's Blue Brazil had the better of the opening exchanges and forced keeper Jan Vojacek into some good saves, but gradually Sons came into the game and Dennis Wyness came close with a chip over the goalkeeper and then a powerful shot which the keeper saved well.

In the second half both sides had spells of being in charge and had chances to open the scoring, but the defences and keepers were in fine form — especially Cowden's Joe Mbu and his Sons opposite number, Ben Gordon.

The home team had two great close range chances, but keeper Vojacek clung on to both efforts, while at the other end skipper Michael Dunlop sent a stunning volley over the bar.
