Jim Chapman's side, still hoping to a win a play-off place and already secure in the division, moved to up fifth place with a win which was much more comprehensive than the 2-1 margin suggests.

Playing up the hill in the first half they dominated from the start and created a number of chances in front of the home keeper, ex-Son David Crawford, before David Winters opened the scoring with a tap-in at the far post after skipper Michael Dunlop had headed the ball across the goalmouth.

At the other end the title-chasers, who had a defender red-carded for a second bookable offence, fired in several shots but found young keeper Michael White in confident form.

After the break Allan Maitland's men charged up the slope and eventually won a penalty which Andy Scott sent just beyond the outstretched hands of keeper White. That inspired some pressure from the Wasps, but the winning goal came at the other end when Dennis Wyness netted from the edge of the box.

After that Sons remained in command and missed a couple of sitters before the final whistle ended an excellent performance.
