SONS START NEW SEASON
10-Jul-2010
The pre-season friendly was a good contest in the first half, but a rash of substitutions in the second period killed the momentum of the game.New signings Ross Campbell, Allan McManus and Paul Maxwell made their debuts for Sons, while keeper Stephen Grindlay was playing his first game since his return to the club.
The visitors nearly opened the scoring soon after the start when Derek Carcary broke through at pace, but keeper Craig Summersgill saved his shot. Iain Chisholm then saw a rasping shot kept out by the crossbar.
At the other end Bryan Gilfillan tested Grindlay with a tricky lob.
After the break the game could have gone either way, but it rather petered out and 0-0 always seemed the likely outcome. So it proved, though Campbell had a good shot blocked by a defender shortly before the close.
Manager Jim Chapman fielded two trialists, and two defenders from the Sons 19s, Tony Wallace and the towering Liam Mushet, also played for a few minutes in the second half.
