SONS THUMPED BY CITY
26-Mar-2011
DUMBARTON were hammered 6-0 by promotion-chasing Brechin City on a muddy and heavily-sanded pitch at a chilly Glebe Park.It took the home side only seven minutes to open the scoring when a looping header from no.10 David McKenna from a narrow angle just beat keeper Stephen Grindlay.
Alan Adamson's men tried hard to find a way into the match, with striker Jon McShane sending in a stinging shot which brought a fine save from keeper Craig Nelson. Mark Gilhaney came close with a shot, and skipper Ben Gordon sent a header just wide.
A goal within 30 seconds of the restart by Jamie Redman set the tone for a fine second half by the home side, who charged down the slope at great pace and kept up constant pressure on the visiting defence.
Further goals came from the division's top striker Rory McAllister, a second for McKenna, another from substitute Mitchell Megginson, and finally McKenna again for a well-taken hat-trick.
