SONS STUN STENNY

DUMBARTON stunned visitors Stenhousemuir with a powerful display at the Dumbarton Football Stadium.

The 3-0 victory meant that third-placed Sons are now ten points clear of fourth-placed Stenny and must stand a great chance of clinching a play-off place.

The highlight of the match came after only 40 seconds when top scorer Bryan Prunty netted with a brilliant Wayne Rooney-style overhead kick from a Mark Gilhaney cross, and for the next half hour Sons were rampant.

The second goal finally arrived in the 32nd minute. Several players had efforts blocked in a melee in the Stenny goalmouth, but Mark Gilhaney finally managed to place a shot behind keeper Ally Brown.

After the break the visitors — spurred on by ex-Sons Stevie Murray and Andy Rodgers — fought back bravely, but either missed simple chances or found keeper Stephen Grindlay in top form.

Victory was clinched in the 75th minute when midfielder Scott Agnew found space on the edge of the box and sent home one of his trademark inswinging shots.
