LEADERS TOO GOOD FOR SONS

DUMBARTON'S ten game unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 2-0 to second division leaders Cowdenbeath at the Dumbarton Football Stadium.

An 812-strong crowd gathered to watch third against first, but the contest was spoiled by almost torrential rain throughout.

An early goal by visiting defender Joe Mbu, who headed home unmarked at a corner, set the tone, and the Blue Brazil took charge of the game.

Far too often the home side attempted difficult passes when the conditions called for simplicity, or else just gave the ball away to the men in blue shirts.

Half-time arrived without the visiting keeper having to make a save, and after the break the pattern continued as the pacey visitors piled on the pressure.

The inevitable second goal came when Marc McKenzie broke through and sent an angled drive past keeper Stephen Grindlay in the 71st minute.

Sons strived to find a goal, but to no avail. In this game they were out-thought, out-fought and outplayed.
